At our business, we use the timeless art of sand casting to craft each of our rings, combining ancient techniques with modern precision. Sand casting dates back thousands of years, allowing us to create intricate designs by pouring molten metal into a custom-made sand mold. This method not only preserves the tradition of craftsmanship but also ensures every ring is unique, reflecting the rich history and artistry of this age-old process.

1. Make the mold

First, we press the object we want to cast into a special kind of sand that holds its shape really well. The sand is packed into a two-part metal frame called a flask. We press the object into both halves to create a full impression. Once we’ve made the mold, we take the object out and carve small channels into the sand. One is for pouring in the metal, and the others let air escape. After that, we close the mold back up and make sure everything is aligned properly.

2. Pour the silver

With the mold ready, we melt silver until it becomes completely liquid. Once it reaches the right temperature and flows smoothly, we carefully pour it into the mold through the main channel. The silver fills the shape and all its details. Then we let it sit and cool down so the metal can harden inside the mold.

3. Clean it up

After the silver has cooled, we open the mold and remove the casting. Long spikes usually form where the air vents and pour channel were, so we cut those off first. Then we begin sanding the piece, starting with a rough grit and working our way to finer grits. This smooths out the surface and removes any marks left from the casting. Finally, we polish the piece until it has a clean and finished look.
